15 Mar (NucNet): A Russian-led consortium bidding to construct two new nuclear reactor units at the Temelín nuclear plant in the Czech Republic has signed suppliers’ contracts with three Czech companies.
The consortium comprising Atomstroyexport, Gidropress and Skoda, which is proposing its MIR (Modernised International Reactor) 1200 unit for Temelín, said it had signed contracts with ZAT, HOCHTIEF CZ and UJV Rez.
The signatories committed themselves to cooperation with the consortium should it win the tender for Temelín-3 and -4, a statement said.
ZAT will supply automated systems for the plant, HOCHTIEF CZ will be responsible for construction of the nuclear island, and UJV Rez will help compile project documentation for the nuclear and turbine islands, and also create working documentation for construction of the plant.
Russian state nuclear corporation Rosatom said the contracts were more proof that the consortium’s strategy is for “maximum involvement of Czech industry”. A statement said the consortium is aiming for a “localisation level” of 75 percent.
Three bids have been submitted to Czech state-owned Czech utility CEZ for the construction of two reactors at Temelín. The other two are from Westinghouse with its AP1000 reactor and Areva with the European Pressurised Water Reactor (EPR1600).
In October 2012, Areva said it planned to file an objection after CEZ said the French company’s bid had been disqualified.
The winner of the contract is scheduled to be announced at the end of 2013 and active commissioning of the reactors is scheduled between 2020 and 2025.
