13 Jun (NucNet): The operator of the Kozloduy nuclear power station in Bulgaria has chosen Areva to provide services for the safety instrumentation and control (I&C) and electrical systems for Kozloduy units 5 and 6.
Areva will also provide its expertise for the replacement or adaptation of the main electrical generators, which will provide a 10 percent increase in the electrical power output of each reactor, a statement said.
Areva has already installed its Teleperm XS digital safety I&C platform at both of the VVER-1000 reactors.
The units are Bulgaria’s only commercially operational reactors, but in December 2013, Bulgaria approved a report from its energy minister on the need for new nuclear and said it would begin exclusive talks with Westinghouse on building an AP1000 at Kozloduy.
