28 Aug (NucNet): There will be “shovels in the ground” within three to four years for three new AP1000 reactors in the UK, as well as new units in China and Bulgaria, Westinghouse chief executive officer Danny Roderick has told NucNet.
Mr Roderick said in an interview that Westinghouse is going to spend the next 18 months to two years preparing the necessary paperwork to make sure the three-unit Moorside project in the UK is “ready to go”. After the licensing procedures are done, the plan is to move right into the construction stage.
“We hope to have shovels in the ground within the next three or four years and we are planning for a four-year construction cycle for each of the three units to be built on the site,” Mr Roderick said.
In the interview, Mr Roderick also talks about technology transfer to China and the impact of the Ukraine crisis on the company’s nuclear fuel supply business.
