19 Jun (NucNet): The International Atomic Energy Agency and Russia have signed a transit agreement for the transport of low-enriched uranium (LEU) and equipment through Russian territory to and from an IAEA LEU bank being established in Kazakhstan. Under the agreement, Russia will ensure the safe and secure transit of IAEA LEU and equipment. The LEU bank, which was approved by the IAEA earlier this month, will be at the Ulba Metallurgical Plant in Oskemen in northeastern Kazakhstan. The IAEA said the Ulba plant has been handling and storing nuclear material, including LEU, safely and securely for more than 60 years.
