19 Sep (NucNet): The Fuqing-4 nuclear reactor unit in southeastern China's Fujian province began commercial operation on 17 September 2017 at 17:57 local time, project owner China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) said.
The 1,000-MW domestically developed CPR1000 reached first criticality on 16 July 2017 and was connected to the grid on 29 July 2017.
CNNC said the unit was running in trial operation mode for a week before commercial operation began. Construction of Fuqing-4 started in November 2012.
There are now four units in commercial operation and two under construction at the Fuqing site. Fuqing-1 began commercial operation in November 2014, Fuqing-2 in October 2015 and Fuqing-3 in October 2016.
Fuqing-5 and -6 are China’s first two Hualong One reactors.
With Fuqing-4, China will have 37 reactors in commercial operation.
